Wellness Riders is a community-led not-for-profit using skateboarding to support positive physical, mental and social wellbeing.
We deliver youth skate programmes for tamariki and rangatahi.
We also offer adaptive-specific skate programmes for people with disabilities, neurodivergence and additional support needs.
Our sessions are beginner friendly and led by experienced coaches, with skateboards, helmets and protective gear provided. We meet people where they’re at — whether someone is stepping on a board for the first time, building confidence and skills, or needs a more adaptive approach to participate.
Our focus is simple:
• Movement
• Confidence
• Connection
• Belonging
Through skateboarding, we aim to reduce barriers to participation and create positive experiences where people can learn at their own pace, feel supported and be part of a community.
Wellness Riders is bringing two free skate sessions to Howden Skatepark, Queenstown: A Youth Skate Class and an Adaptive Skate Event. Both delivered in collaboration with Whakatipu Youth Trust and supported by Sport Otago.
No previous skateboarding experience is needed — our coaches tailor each session to suit individual goals, abilities and comfort levels. Skateboards, helmets and protective gear provided. Parents, carers, whānau and support workers are welcome to attend and support participants throughout.
